One of my great joys comes from working with conscious leaders who are ready to step into the next expression of their purpose so they can bring their boldest visions into form.

This journey can be difficult to undertake without support because the call of leadership is an opportunity to reclaim parts of yourself that have been set aside, to develop new levels of emotional intelligence and maturity, and transform old patterns through self-awareness and aligned action. A leader’s openness to do inner work is essential for outer transformation.

How does the leadership coaching process work?

The journey begins with an inspiring vision: for yourself as a leader, your team, your organization, and even the world. Your vision is the North Star that guides our work together.

Once your vision is established, we identify 2-3 specific and measurable goals to work toward during our coaching engagement. Often, these goals are informed by feedback from others as it is essential for leaders to understand the impact their words and actions have on others

Once we have an inspiring vision, clear goals, and an understanding of where you are today, we can begin the work of bringing vision into form. This is also where it gets real: old patterns arise, internal and external challenges appear, and you begin to identify behaviors that need to be transformed so that you can expand as a leader.

In the process, you will tap into the wisdom of your mind, and also the wisdom of your heart and body. You will uncover and refine the values you hold as a leader, increase your self-awareness, discover new strengths and identify blind spots. Your capacity for leadership expands as you take aligned action. This results in greater success - personally and professionally - in whatever way you define “success”.

Leadership Challenge: T.S. came to me for help with inspiring excellence in his team without having those folks feel like they were being criticized. While T.S.'s words were measured and encouraging when providing direction, his colleagues sensed underlying frustration and impatience, resulting in a loss of trust which negatively impacted collaboration.

The Ah-Ha Moment: Through our coaching, T.S. noticed pain in his shoulder when frustration and impatience arose. This somatic marker was an early warning sign. A sign to pay attention and take a few deep, slow breaths to calm down his nervous system and reconnect with his intention before speaking.

Meditation Experiment

Meditation and mindfulness practice help to clarify the mental field and calm our nervous system, increasing our capacity to make conscious choices rather than be held hostage by our old patterns.

The Path: Inspired by this early win, we crafted an experiment to see if regular mindfulness meditation would lead to less instances in which his impatience showed up as sharp language and an intimidating tone. T.S. discovered that when he practiced mindfulness meditation it was easier for him to manage his emotions and show up as an inspiring and encouraging leader.

The Impact: As a result of these changes, T.S. was able to rebuild trust with his team as they began to feel deep care and support which had previously been hidden under a layer of frustration. T.S. has been able to achieve much more with his team and now has one of the highest employee satisfaction scores in the larger organization.
